Couples Therapy

You want love to feel easy again. In your partnership, you:

  • feel like you’re working way too hard to make the relationship work
  • feel emotionally unsupported by your partner
  • end up yelling at each other almost every time you fight
  • fight every time you try to talk about a particular topic
  • are not connecting with each other because of the past pain and hurt that’s built up
  • struggle to communicate about anything meaningful

Or maybe things are generally going well, and you:

  • are exploring how to keep your connection sacred as you explore inviting other lovers/boos/friends/etc.
  • are negotiating the form of poly that works best for both of you
  • want to strengthen your communication or attachment bond
  • want to learn emotional skills to better support each other
  • want to learn how heal your attachment wounds in your partnership
  • want to be more open and honest with each other

Hostings

I offer:

  • curiosity, compassion, and kindness, and ask you to do the same
  • non-judgmental and fair space to navigate difficult conversations
  • honest reflection on your patterns
  • tools, skills, and ideas to help you emotionally support each other and navigate conflict better
  • advice and homework, if you want it
  • celebration of your wins

I provide therapy in-person in Baltimore City and online for folks anywhere in Maryland.

Work with me feels curious, understanding, balanced between each partner’s concerns, gently challenging of each partner’s role in your dynamic, educational, and healing.

Couples who I work with have successfully learned skills and tools to improve their communication, learned how to be more open to and emotionally supportive of each other, and taken brave steps to shift their relationships in ways that work best for them.

I offer 85-minute appointments biweekly, monthly or less frequently depending on your need and my availability. I find that a longer appointment time allows time and space for both members of the couple to receive adequate space for their concerns and to practice skills or strategize about how to implement the work we've done during the appointment.

During couples therapy, I:

  • share information and sometimes insight or analysis about what I’m noticing so you can better understand your relationship patterns
  • value and prioritize developing a safer and non-judgemental healing relationship with you both so we can get to the roots of the challenges in your relationship
  • help you explore scary, painful, difficult, or hidden emotions, offer emotionally reparative experiences, and teach you how to offer these to each other
  • support you in learning and consistently using healthier communication and emotional skills
  • remind you of the skills and supports that help your relationship feel better for each of you
  • help you break down the barriers to using your healthier skills so your relationship can feel better all the time, not just in therapy

I work best with couples who:

  • are ready to acknowledge each partner's role in the dynamic
  • are ready to be vulnerable and make some changes with support
  • are open to healing exercises and experiences
  • want some feedback and information from their therapist

My work is informed by:

  • attachment research
  • EFT (Emotionally Focused Therapy)
  • IFS (Internal Family Systems)
  • feminism and anti-oppression
  • Imago Therapy
